(I) It began for me with poetry - but why, For what value were such words engraven Dear to my heart, from where beauty these lines, The song to their sound and truth their meaning. From the man I must try to be, work for, Or all of us, such emotion, I should taste, Drink of, experience, to make me more In tune with that to which this life is graced. I hoped for the best the present could bring, Hint of, point to, and therein spent my time With such a view, to sow the seeds of spring, My dreams - becoming summer - grew sublime. But never bloomed until my love for you, And then I saw such things I never knew. (II) I start with song, the magic of music, As verse aims at chorus I sang days, Gave voice of my youth, sought joy to draw in, I told time, this is love to be always. To music I brought life with my movement, In dance I felt song, spirited, and turned Through it, to it returned, it skywards then sent, It with the light of the joy I so yearned. I sang, gave thanks, to nature for beauty, For this life, for the light of these days, for nights, For the close and the rest, to renew me, From one to the next and on, delighted. But light I never knew until the star You lit me sent true love from way afar. (I) Each morning I set myself adventure, To seeing, from high to far, from far shore To other, there for river flowing pure, Rising free, and for our best being swore My soul to art, in such cause gathering The worth of all that is still possible, The span to share, to reach for happening, It with words advance through all I'm able. I wrote, allowed, for beauty to compose, Ideal, ardour again to add to it, Patterning, my small progress to suppose A complement, it in its own truth lit. And yet no word had light until your name Brought to my life love, brought love to my aim. (II) I sang first to the trees where when a child I walked, to them of the season's presence, Passing, of different suns the day smiled, Of the miracle which nature intends By each turn of the planet, the rising The morning our star, the life which is lit To grow through course of the years, the living Of the sun's true joy - the being of it. How I was happy then I thought the best I have it now, no better may it be, For that I am alive is to be blessed So all the lights of beauty I should see. And yet now I look again with your love Shone dear to sight, shone from the skies above. (I) The days I rested I read, and every night, Lovely I thought to learn, imagine life, Written, in living, in feeling and sight Shared, letters to sound, speak of, call in - light Of such scenes that I would never reach, lives, Whole lives elsewhere I could not know, be there To reap with them - for what sowed, for what strived This man, and how - to prevail with them where I dare say it matters most - heart and soul Raised, for pages and days, the going done good, See chapters and years turn out good overall, So turn for me I then hoped that it would. Yes, you said - your first word, to me meant more Love, than for all that sang the troubadour. (II) I must first have heard song, or rather first Felt it, the opening step of beauty Before endless ahead - the universe Infinite - beyond the blessing to be. God to be found in our love for music, So then the truth in each note I heard sung, One along with the next arranged, to bring Onwards our hearts, open, as one, among The sacraments of nature, to align In acclaim, together the glory, Inspired of the cosmos, feelings divine, Art above order, so now our story. This act of creation, of concordance So certain, proving providence of chance. (I) If music speaks of God then what of love For each other, the human less of air Than the note, but where emotion above Is of light, the foundation of prayer Is our happiness on Earth, it is you, You for whom virtue I value, for all, All of us here that the strongest sings through, It is for living the Heavens we call. Our bodies of love, of soul, there written, Realized learning, of carrying deed, Of instance our voyage sustained therein, Our hopes for the next step from progress lead. Miles so many I wishfully walked, time Hopefully spent, for you with me should rhyme. (II) Then beatitudes in nature expressed, To nourish of beauty our souls, offer Potential our hands, grace presence, attest This intended the fundament our author Benevolence, paradise, plenitude, For goodness to praise, justify freedom, In each unit of space and time is proved Many and one, so of soul is love come, The creation of Earth more an ideal, As earth cooler than fire, more energy, Art an infinitive, incorporeal, Although I admit a circle to be. Body and spirit I pledge you where mine, Rhyme with me matter, my light to align. (I) I remember the streets I walked, the air Teeming, character the crown I wore, thought A crest of my years, these were the streets where Turned I ahead of the place I had sought And stopped for the sight of your soul, a glow Through the panes of a window, thereto framed The brightest of hopes, I found myself thrown From the past, flung to the future, proclaimed By the fate I was soon to meet, I entered And sat, swooning, seeking to say I should Love you the length of my life though it lasted Forever, better, more rather, I would. Not a word could I utter, our first note The tip of the truth to you I devote. (II) I remember the night that you entered And all before in reference, steps back In time re-lit with the joy that I heard Heaven-sent, hearten, willed, dawnings to track, Hearken my darling their coming, distance Alive in our past, past presence, landing First light of a star, to see the advance Is to source from the start, wend of the wing, One syllable you stopped at, the smallest Did show of your question rising intent, Risen of heart as though go voices celeste, I sing to the well spring all that you meant. I wonder for that I would not know you, Fortune I thank for felicity true. (I) One turn of the Earth through darkness and light The marvel of love I held in my heart, From the City I walked home for the sight Of the living, for my joy counterpart - Each of you is equal to this, such sense - We humans are love, we humans are hope, From each of you run river, confluence, Flowing of feeling, each other our scope, The night I flew in dream of the morning, From there to you I returned and sat all day Smiling at you my wish, gazes adoring I gave you, six hours preparing to say That I love you, though were only last night I first saw you, my soul you delight. (II) More wonder how the years ahead did so Faith that moment always show, it abide, I think of all on us it did bestow, All itself its own key is kept inside, Truth is being, all truth then predicate Of the first, all of us one from it, But within are held chords of certain fates, Such chords as to angels would befit, That they should us so surely guide, smile Again for me as you did then never Could you but shone it then more worth the while, Still, and on, I singing, now, forever. So I love you, far more than you could know, Flow time the length of space the span to grow. (I) I said, I've been smiling at you all day And I want to tell you why - will you sit, If with just one chance, I would say rightly, These words count for all our lives - I admit I'm worried you'll frighten but such moments Must be taken, be expressed, in their true nature, Mean a lot: first sight of you - 'twas romance, From the moment I first saw you - treasure That through the course of years we shall add to, If you will, I will, beyond now, our first day, Spend with me, we'll earn, all I may love you, I light you, this new star - send heavenly, It and I for you will shine forever, Brightly so is lit our song together. (II) Surprise shook me, took my legs beneath me, So then I sat - I had seen you smiling, But didn't look - until I heard you say, True love - what it meant, why it was glowing As far for us along the way ahead, Eternity, I thought it, illumined, Paths for us to turn on - I saw time led Lightly, through air our dances so sustained. Feeling certain I said let it begin, Our first step then, or rather first music, Our love's first note and then the following, There I will join you, and sing at our meeting, Forever now to you my melody, Together you to mine in harmony.
